Cancer Prevention, Education, Screening and Treatment Program
The Colorectal Cancer Screening Project
Colorectal cancer is the second leading cancer killer in Maryland. By encouraging people to be tested for this cancer and by having free screening available for eligible county residents we are working toward reducing colon cancer deaths in Carroll County.
Screening is important! If you are 50 years of age or older you should be screened for Colorectal Cancer.
(If you have certain risk factors you may need to be screened earlier.) Sigmoidoscopy or Colonoscopy is recommended every 5-10 years in most cases.
Risk FactorsAge: There is an increased risk of colorectal cancer at age 50 and above.
Family History: People with a family history of colorectal cancer or polyps (small growths on the lining of the colon) have an increased risk of developing colorectal cancer. Polyps can become cancerous if left untreated.
Personal History: People with a personal history of inflammatory bowel disease, adenomatous polyps or cancer of the ovary or endometrium are at increased risk for colorectal cancer.
Call 410-876-4443 or 4966 for information on
