OTHER NOTES:
·
WHO’s
Global Pandemic Phase remains at FIVE (SIX is highest). Bear in mind that these phases relate to how
widespread the infection is, not how severe it is.
·
Median
age is 17 years.
·
There
have been approximately 30 hospitalizations.
·
Initial
laboratory tests indicate there is the absence of a 1918 H1N1“virulent marker”
on this strain.
·
The
State Public Health laboratory in Baltimore will be receiving Swine Flu
confirmatory test kits from the federal government so the State can do its own
confirmatory testing on throat swabs.
This is apparently in response to the CDC laboratory in Atlanta becoming
overwhelmed.
·
The
Governor did in fact formally declare a Public Health State of Emergency Friday
afternoon.
CURRENT PUBLIC HEALTH RECOMMENDATIONS FOR A CARROLL
COUNTY RESPONSE:
·
Nothing
new from Friday. Health Officer is
trying to clarify the school closing procedure and authority. It appears from the popular media late
Friday and over the weekend that the Governor/State is unilaterally issuing
orders to close schools, while the CDC guidance mandates involvement of local
officials.
